First built by the British in 1749, the Halifax Citadel stands guard over the city and harbour from a hilltop vantage. Although never attacked itself, it was an important staging point for troops going overseas in both World Wars. For many soldiers, it was the last landmark they saw leaving home and the first familiar sight on their return. The straight, strong cuts of our ‘Citadel’ pattern reflect this proud military heritage.
