Why do we collect your information?

NovaScotian Crystal uses your personal information to fill and ship your orders. We also use it to maintain a history of your dealings with us. It allows us to know what you bought, where it was delivered, and when. It’s part of our wish to serve you better and to make your shopping as easy and enjoyable as possible. Many of our customers appreciate that we safely store this information, as it can act as a reminder of what they sent to Aunt Sarah for her birthday last year.

The information we collect also helps us to design our products and services around your needs. For instance, it was the popularity of our port glasses that led us to create our port decanter, the perfect addition to a set.

Will we use your information to market directly to you?

On Dec. 15, 2010 the Canadian Government passed the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation, commonly referred to as CASL, which will take effect on July 1st, 2014. With the induction of CASL, the toughest anti-spam law in the world, Canadian businesses will be held accountable for the way they electronically communicate with their customers, potential customers, other organizations and message recipients. This includes any marketing communications or anything that is defined as a commercial electronic message, or CEM. Fortunately for us, we already operate under our own very strict guidelines for how we communicate and market to our customers, whether it be by email, telephone or direct mail. We’ll only contact you if you want us to. The choice is yours!

Our “opt in” policy means that when you first do business with us, you must let us know if you want to receive marketing messages. Opting-in also lets us know that you’re happy to continue communicating with us by electronic communications and telephone regarding anything relating to your business with us.  By giving us consent to contact you, we’re better able to inform you of upcoming events, new products and news about our company. If you don’t give us your consent within the first six months of our initial conversation or email, we’ll no longer be able to contact you as stipulated in CASL. What about credit card information?

Most of your information is automatically stored, like your name, shipping address and telephone number. When it comes to credit card information, you may request that we keep it on file. Some people don’t want this information stored. Others like the convenience of not having to repeat the information every time they place an order. Please note, credit card information is not stored on our website. It is stored on a secure computer system on our premises.

We treat all our customers equally, whether frequent purchasers or not. That means your information never expires no matter how long it’s been since you purchased from us.

A record of your historic sales transactions, as well as your personal information as it appeared at the time of purchase, will remain in our system. This is simply so we can keep records of what we’ve sold. If you request that we change your information, or wish to no longer be contacted, we will honour your request.
