No one knows more about what tastes better to a scotch drinker than scotch drinkers themselves. So we consulted with several aficionados to craft the perfect glass. After much tasting, testing and tasting again, our craftsmen created the ultimate Single Malt Glass.
It takes several skilled craftsmen and approximately one week to produce each glass. The Bowl and neck determine much. In fact, many professional tasters say they can learn everything they want to know about a scotch by its aroma. With that in mind, our glass enjoys a wide bowl to expose more of the drink to the air, releasing more of the aromatic gifts within. A narrow neck and balanced heft permit a good swirl, channeling the bouquet directly to you.
The Flare of the glass has a critical relationship with your tongue. With a traditional tumbler, the scotch is splashed willy-nilly into your mouth. A proper rim delivers the taste carefully. Our curved lip feels comfortable against your own, delivering your single malt to the front of the tongue.
A scotch glass also has to be right, so that you’re able to take in the subtle hues. Our Single Malt glass is designed so that you can hold it either by its foot or cradled in your palm.
In Scotland, it’s said you can spot a tourist in someone who doesn’t cut their whisky with water. It’s true that most single malt is enhanced by a small splash of water. The trick is making sure it’s a small splash. Too much would drown the precious whisky. What’s needed is a vessel that gives you complete control over the amount of water being added to your drink.
Our craftsmen took up the challenge. After much experimentation, it turns out the perfect vessel for the task is a miniature, stemless version of our Single Malt Glass. So of course it not only works well, it’s an attractive complement to our glass.
The Water Thimble is available in all our patterns as a set with our Single Malt Glass or separately. (Yes, we do have some non-scotch drinkers who prize it as a perfect milk pitcher when serving tea or a tiny wildflower vase.)
