Companies typically have a privacy policy and we’re no different. Though for us, it’s not just a legal thing. We think it’s important you understand what happens to your personal information when it’s in our care. After all, your choice to do business with us indicates your agreement to our practices.

Why do we Collect Information?

Personal information is used to fill and ship your orders. We also use it to maintain a history of your dealings with us. We generally know what you bought and when. We know what you had shipped to others. Many of our customers find this very useful and depend on us to remind them of what they sent to Aunt Sarah last year.

We also use it analytically to design our products and services. For instance, it was the popularity of our port glasses that led us to create our port decanter. We opened a showroom in Calgary because we knew we had a lot of customers in Alberta. You get the picture.

Will we use your information to market directly to you?

Only if you want us to. We enjoy every opportunity to be in touch with you, but the choice is yours. Our “opt in” policy means when you first do business with us, you let us know if you want to receive marketing messages. You can change your mind at any time.

With the information we have, we try to make the message relevant to you. It helps to know what patterns you prefer, what pieces you already own and what pieces you don’t. Not to worry though. What about information collected on our website?

In addition to the information described above, our website also collects aggregate information. This includes such things as where you went on the site, the order in which you visited pages and which links you used. The aggregate of this information helps us understand how people are using our site and can ultimately help us improve the design. NovaScotian Crystal will never use this information to personally identify you.

What happens to your information?

We will never sell, trade or rent your information or otherwise profit from it directly. We may use your personal information to process and ship your order or to communicate marketing messages if you have opted in.

What about credit card information?

Most of your information is automatically stored. Name, shipping address, telephone number and the like. When it comes to credit card information, we always ask whether or not you want us to keep it on file. Some people don’t want this information stored. Others like the convenience of not having to repeat the information every time they place an order. Please note, credit card information is not stored on our website. It is stored on a secure computer system on our own premises.

How long do we keep your personal information?

We treat all our customers equally, whether frequent purchasers or not. That means your information never expires no matter how long it’s been since you purchased from us. We will only delete it upon your request.

How do you change or delete your information?

You can update your information anytime. Simply contact us by phone, email or in person. Full contact information is at the end of this document.

Upon request, you can also have your personal information such as name, address and telephone number deleted from our system. A record of your sales transactions, however, will remain but it will be anonymous. This is simply so we can keep records of what we’ve sold.
